Students/parents are responsible for purchasing the supplies to care for and maintain their instrument. This is required regardless if the students are using their own instrument or a school-owned instrument. Instrument supplies are specific to each instrument and are listed below. LCMS Ensembles
Lucyle Collins Middle School offers three levels of band. Please click on the link for each band to access information.
Beginning Band
BEGINNING BAND
The Beginner Band is the first step in the journey as a member of the Lucyle Collins Middle School Band. Students in the Beginner Band will enjoy instrument specific classes where they can learn to play their chosen instrument in a small-group setting. Students will learn how to properly assemble, hold, and play their instrument in a fun and progressive course designed to teach all of the skills necessary to perform concerts for your family and friends!
The Beginner Band will perform several concerts throughout the first year, as well as travel to a music festival to compete against bands from around the state. The Beginner Band is primarily made up of 6th grade students, but special consideration can be made on a case-by-case basis for older students interested in joining band

Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band is an advanced performing ensemble with students who have at least one year of experience. Symphonic Band is the equivalent of compacted math or a Pre-AP level content. Students in this band must be proficient on their instruments and must be willing to commit to regular rehearsal and practice time. Symphonic Band full band rehearsals throughout the year. Students in this band are expected to participate in the scheduled rehearsals, concerts, pep rallies, and contests.
All students will participate in the Solo & Ensemble Contest. It is also HIGHLY recommended that students participate in the district supplemental private lessons.
The Symphonic Band is under the direction of Mr. Nicholas Salazar
Honors Band
HONORS BAND
Honors band is our most advanced ensemble, designed to emphasize continued individual development in areas such as technique, tone, and music literacy. Honors Band is the equivalent of accelerated math or an AP level course. The Honors Band comprised of 8th graders with the ocassional 7th grader. Placement in the Honors Band is based on student performance proficiency.
Students in this band are required to participate in the scheduled rehearsals, concerts, pep rallies, and contests. In addition, each student will have the opportunity to audition for the TMEA All Region Band and will participate in the Solo & Ensemble contest.
It is also strongly recommended that the student participate in the district supplemental private lessons.
Honor Winds is under the direction of Mr. Manny Guerrero and has received awards in UIL and other music festivals.
Jade Jazz Band
The Jade Jazz ensemble is offered to all students who are currently members of the Lucyle Collins Middle School Band program.
Jade jazz meets before school on WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS from 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM beginning on October 9, 2024. Students will learn the basics of jazz pedagogy, including jazz theory, jazz improvisation, and the different genres included in jazz ensembles.
Jade Jazz is under the direction of Mr. Manny Guerrero
