  • In 2015, the President signed the Every Student Succeeds Act, a reauthorization of the ESEA of 1965. ESSA replaces its predecessor, the No Child Left Behind Act (2001).
     
     

What it is… Federal supplemental financial assistance to help provide high-quality education for all students to meet the state performance standards. This additional funding is based upon the number of students in our district who qualify to receive free or reduced priced meals. Title I, Part A, provides supplemental resources to help schools with high concentrations of students from low-income families provide high-quality education that will enable all children to meet the challenging state academic standards. The purpose of Title I, Part A, is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and close the educational achievement gaps.

What it is… Federal supplemental financial assistance to help develop new and improve existing CTE programs, with the full participation of individuals who are members of special populations. The purpose of the career and technical education (CTE) program is to develop more fully the academic and career and technical skills of secondary students who enroll in CTE programs by: (1) assisting CTE students in meeting challenging academic and technical standards, including preparation for high skill, high wage, or high demand occupations; (2) promoting the integration of academic and career and technical instruction that links secondary and postsecondary education for CTE students; (3) increasing flexibility in providing services and activities designed to develop, implement, and improve CTE programs; (4) disseminating information on best practices that improve CTE; (5) supporting partnerships among secondary schools and postsecondary institutions, local workforce boards, and business and industry; (6) and providing professional development that improves the quality of CTE teachers, faculty, administrators, and counselors.

What it is… Federal supplemental financial assistance to help increase student academic achievement through improving teacher and principal quality by providing professional development and supporting effective instruction. The purpose of Title II, Part A, is to provide financial assistance to LEAs to do the following: (1) Increase student academic achievement through improving teacher and principal quality and increasing the number of effective teachers in classrooms and qualified principals and assistant principals in schools; and (2) Hold LEAs and schools accountable for improving student academic achievement.

What it is… Federal supplemental financial assistance to help ensure English language learners and immigrant students attain English language proficiency. The purpose of Title III, Part A, is to provide supplemental resources to LEAs to help ensure that children who are English Language Learners (ELL) attain English proficiency at high levels in academic subjects and can meet state achievement performance standards. Intended beneficiaries are English language learners including immigrant children and youth.

What it is… Federal supplemental financial assistance to help improve the academic achievement of all students by increasing the capacity of LEAs, schools, and communities to (1) provide all students with access to a well-rounded education; and (2) improve school conditions for student learning; and (3) improve the use of technology in order to enhance academic outcomes and digital literacy of students.
